I love the large trees in the this home's front lawn....something that my home lacks.

I'm Not Seeing Green (any more)

New carpet!
We spent Saturday emptying our three bedrooms of their contents, ripping out carpet and painting trim.  I hope never to do such a thing again. On the upside, we are rid of the 1993 green carpet that was in the house when we bought it.  Hurrah!

In other news, today I'm sharing a little about hosting exchange students over on Today's Mama. Pop over and leave me questions in the comments on post.

Brick with classic details

I love brick homes.  This home is so classic with the chimneys on each end, the hipped roof with dormers, the arched portico.

Check it out!

I'm super excited to let you all know that I will be posting on Today's Mama at least once a week.  Click over to read my first post.

In the future I'll not only be writing about parenting in general, but also about New England specific topics.  Let me know if there's anything you'd really love to read about.

The kids' new nicknames (left to right): Lew, Dogger, Goosey
If you've read my blog for a while you'll know that I've always used my kids' first names.  I've decided that it's time to switch to nicknames, for their privacy.  I'm asking you to please refer to them with their nicknames in the comments.  And please, if you know our last name leave that out too.  Thanks for your help.

Gorgeous Chimney

This newer home nods to traditional New England design.  I'm liking the brick chimney and the mini widow's walk over the portico.  Super cute.

Losing what you thought you knew

Remember when they demoted Pluto? How about when they decided indigo shouldn't be in the rainbow? Why do "they" keep taking things away from us? The mnemonics I learned for the planets and the rainbow no longer work.  I can't even share that wisdom my my kids. This is serious stuff.

What will they take next? A level from the animal classification hierarchy?  A continent? One of the thirteen original colonies?

It's too much.  We must put our collective foot down.  Stop taking pieces of our knowledge away!

Gabby's Quilt

I made this for my niece who should be here any day.  I'm a little bit jealous because I really, really love the colors in this quilt (the orange!!!!).  Maybe she'll share it with me when I cuddle her.

Local Craftsman

I happened upon a Craftsman in my town.  They are few and far between here (literally), so I was ecstatic to find this sweet little home.  Love the thick, tapered porch columns, the roofline over the porch and the large dormer.
