Creature Comfort

We have an owl in our neighborhood. I've never seen him, but I know he has returned from his winter hiatus. For an hour on each side of dawn he hoots every few minutes, wishing me a good morning. At night it's the same. Just before sundown and through twilight he bids me good night.

When he begins singing again each spring I realize how much I missed his song during the winter.

That sounds much better than our friend the woodpecker. He likes to wake us up by pecking on the metal part of the chimney that runs from the basement up through our bedroom closet.
